Day Three: After our gourmet continental breakfast we boarded the Blue Grass Tours bus at 8:45 destined to learn all about horses, bourbon, and tobacco! Learn about all of those things we did. Our tour guide Robert, was a wealth of knowledge as well as entertaining. We visited to many places to list. Keenland "Horse Park, Hill N Dale Farms, Old Friends retirement home for champion thoroughbreds, and downtown Lexington. At Keenland horse park we were impressed by the horses in training looking towards the Triple Crown. At Hill N Dale farms we saw gorgeous stallions and the burial site of the famous Seattle Slew. "Old Friends" provided some interesting entertainment when we got to see the owner, who is a former trainer of famous horses, play soccer with his pet Shelton Pony. Downtown Lexington was filled with history both interesting and colorful!!!! We learned of post office duals, famous military persons like Henry Clay, John Bell, and President Lincoln, and even a madam know as Belle Brezing. It was The Kentucky Horse Park that found our hearts delight though. There are many famous horses not only buried there, such as Secretariat, Man of War, and John Henry but many famous retired race horses as well such as Cigar, Western Dreamer, and Funny Sides. You dont even need to be a horse lover to appreciate the magnificence of these animals. We saw an Egyptian Arabian horse show, several types of draft horses, palomino's, miniature horses, paints, and on and on. There were fencing events, and carriage rides, and children's activities, museums, farriers, art shops, pony rides, and best of all trail rides. We saddled up and headed off on a beautiful trail ride around the perimeter of the park. Even our Mema who truly passifys me by riding, as its not really her most favorite thing to do, stood pretty tall in that saddle today. There is something magical about riding in Lexington KY on the very day the Belmont Stakes is running. It was a day filled with one of my personal most favorite things. The kids had a great time and learned a great deal, (or at least they should have, lol) about the history rich lands of Kentucky. After the park we grabbed some dinner and returned to our hotel for a dip in the pool! A perfect end to a perfect day.
