Journeys

Welcome to my travel blog. Every year my family and I set off on an adventure seeking to explore the world in which we live. We try to experience the culture of each new place we visit. These trips are referred to as the "Sita Family Cultural Road Trip!" I treasure this time with my kids. We spend about 20 days locked up in a car, traveling over 3000 miles, and staying in Econolodges the whole way. We travel on a very tight budget but lack seeing nothing. I hope to share some of our money saving tips with you as well as recieve a few. The places we see, the things we do together, the laughter and tears we share, have created priceless memories that will last a lifetime. This year I was able to experience my childrens social study books coming to life, as they studied many of the places we have been so blessed to experience. Our trips have become a talking point among our friends. It was suggested that I begin a travel blog to share some of our experiences along the way. It is my hope you will enjoy our journey and that it may inspire you to venture off on your own family adventure!

Day Two Lexington KY!

Day 2: Today's Adventures began when I awoke to discover something wasn't right with my eye and that the sore throat I had been ignoring had gotten much worse. I looked out the window to check the weather and imagine what I found. Yes, you got it...rain! I rallied the troops and headed off to Bob Evens for some comfort food. It was there I broke the news to my family. Kids, our jet boat ride isn't going to happen but guess what, you get to hang out with mema in our room while mommy runs over to the ER for a check check-up. They were none to thrilled. So I dropped them off and rushed off to the hospital expecting to wait a good three or four hours to been seen. Let me tell you, the staff of Summersville, WV is awesome. I was in, seen, medicated, and out of their ER in about an hour. It was Walmart where I found myself wandering aimlessly while waiting for my prescriptions, luckily my daughter needed some extra shoes! We packed up and were off again headed for Kentucky. We wondered how the country side could look so beautiful in yet another day of rain. We drove another three and half hours today stopping only for lunch. When we crossed into Kentucky it was like magic, the gray, dreary skies parted and the sun began to shine. We arrived in Lexington, checked in and unloaded. We jumped back in the car determined to find redemption for our lost day. We did! Jacobson Park is a spectacular park where spirits young and old are lifted and frowns of any size quickly turn to smiles. There my children played tag, explorers, and numerous other imaginative games in the most amazing wooden play set I have ever seen. Mema and I gazed at the beautiful lake filled with fisherman, and ducks, and paddle boats and a spectacular sunset. Across the way stood a gorgeous golf course. Up the hill, we would find children jumping till their hearts content in moon bounces and parents spralled out on blankets waiting for the free Friday night movies in the park to begin. Its a great place to have a ton of free fun and experience true southern hospitality. For dinner we chose a local treasure known as "Ramseys." The fried okra, fried green tomatoes, fried chicken, dumplings, and cornbread were outstanding. (so you gain a pound or two) The staff welcomed you like family and best of all it cost us $33.00 for dinner. Yes, that's four people totally full. If you ever eat there, share a meal, its a lot of food. All in all we took a crummy start to the day and turned it into something great. Stay tuned for tomorrows adventures... they will be worth checking in for!
